Luis Enrique's Threats Paid Off: How PSG Transformed

According to reports, Luis Enrique has managed to transform Paris Saint-Germain in his first season without Kylian Mbappé. The Spanish coach led the team to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals but fell short against Borussia Dortmund. This season, he was determined to take a step forward, knowing his team had shortcomings—two key moments sparked the team’s awakening.

    The Decisive Meeting with Players

One of these moments was a meeting with Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the club president, and Luis Campos, the sporting director, after the team’s poor performance. The gameplay was solid, but lack of goals and increasing defeats were concerning. Enrique told Canal+: “I don’t remember the exact moment, but when the Champions League results were disastrous and unfair, I spoke to my players. We held a meeting, and I told them we are one of the best teams in Europe. We lacked efficiency, but I assured them not to worry—we’d keep going. The players were exceptional. This is an amazing moment for the fans.”

A Serious Warning at the Start of the Season

Earlier in the season, Luis Enrique issued a stern warning to his players. He wanted to instill a winning mentality, something he felt was missing in many phases last season. He challenged his players: “Nothing alone explains this. It’s about daily work. We did a great job last year, but it wasn’t enough. I told them if I couldn’t create a different mentality in training, I’d leave. This year, every training session has been at an exceptional level, and the players have performed exceptionally.”

Now, the results of Enrique’s mentality shift are evident—PSG celebrated the Ligue 1 title six weeks early and reached the Champions League final after eliminating strong teams like Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Arsenal.
