Brazil’s Supreme Court rejected two requests to suspend Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), removing the final barrier for Carlo Ancelotti’s potential appointment.

According to reports, Judge Gilmar Mendes dismissed the petitions filed by Fernando Sarney, a CBF vice president, and Daniele Carneiro, a congressional representative, citing “lack of legitimacy” and legal grounds. The plaintiffs sought Rodrigues’ removal and the annulment of an agreement that facilitated the 2022 elections, which Rodrigues won. They alleged that one of the signatories, Antonio Carlos Nunes (known as Colonel Nunes), had his signature forged due to mental incapacity.

In February, Judge Mendes had dismissed legal disputes related to the 2022 elections and, in his latest decision, rejected any reconsideration. However, he ordered the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice to investigate the forgery allegations regarding Colonel Nunes’ signature. The 2022 elections were contested by Rodrigues’ opponents over alleged CBF regulation violations. In December 2023, a Rio court ruled for Rodrigues’ removal, but the Supreme Court overturned the decision, reinstating him in January 2024. On March 24, Rodrigues was re-elected unopposed for a new term from 2026 to 2030.

With Rodrigues remaining in office, the last obstacle for Carlo Ancelotti’s move to Brazil has been cleared, as the current Real Madrid manager has already finalized necessary agreements with Rodrigues.
