This match was not only a local derby but also a direct battle for European qualification, especially considering the results of other matches this week. Lazio was not in good form, having lost 2-0 to Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. Taty Castellanos returned from injury, and Matteo Guendouzi was available after suspension, but Nuno Tavares, Patric, and Arion Ibrahimović were absent. Meanwhile, Roma’s seven-game winning streak in Serie A had been halted by a 1-1 draw against Juventus. Alexis Saelemaekers returned from suspension, but Paulo Dybala and Saud Abdulhamid were still injured.

The game started intensely, with Mile Svilar tipping Alessio Romagnoli’s header from a Gustavo Isaksen cross over the bar. Later, Roma’s goalkeeper made another excellent save against Isaksen’s shot.

Despite Roma having more possession, Lazio continued to create dangerous chances. Svilar made a stunning save to deny Isaksen’s curling left-footed effort heading for the top corner.

The first goal came shortly after the second half began. Luca Pellegrini delivered a free-kick into the six-yard box, and this time Svilar was beaten by Romagnoli’s precise header.

Roma created their first real chance when Gianluca Mancini’s excellent header aimed for the equalizer, but Christos Mandas pulled off a superb save to keep it out. Lazio threatened again as Svilar fingertipped Guendouzi’s header from Isaksen’s cross.

Shortly after, a spectacular volley from Zaccagni narrowly missed the post, but Roma equalized with a magical moment: Soulé unleashed an unstoppable left-footed strike from distance that crashed off the underside of the bar and in. Goal-line technology quickly confirmed the ball had fully crossed the line.

Pedro, facing his former team, fired a shot from outside the box that Svilar comfortably saved. Svilar then made a double save to prevent Evan Ndicka’s own goal and deny Daichi Kamada from scoring on the rebound. The match ended 1-1, a result that satisfied neither team. With this draw, Roma sits seventh with 54 points, while Lazio is two points ahead in sixth place.
