Money and trophies are not the most important things in football
Amorim: I’m already stressed about the final
Rubén Amorim, Manchester United’s head coach, says he is already stressed about the Europa League final against Tottenham.
According to reports, Manchester United has reached the Europa League final, where they will face their Premier League rival, Tottenham Hotspur. Amorim’s squad secured a comfortable 3-0 victory in the first leg in Bilbao, entering the return leg with confidence. Although Mikel Arteta’s side managed to reduce the deficit, United ultimately advanced with a 7-1 aggregate victory.
Mason Mount came off the bench and delivered a brilliant performance, scoring twice alongside goals from Casemiro and Rasmus Højlund, sealing United’s place in the final on May 21. Amorim spoke about the match after the game.
The final?
At the very least, it’s what we can do for our fans. Right now, I’m already stressed about the final because if we don’t win, it will feel like everything was pointless. It’s the same for Ange Postecoglou. One of us will win. It will undoubtedly be a great final.
Changes in the lineup?
It was about giving some players rest. Some were tired. I’m really happy with Mason Mount’s performance. He works incredibly hard. I also liked Kobbie Mainoo’s game—he played exceptionally well.
Fan support?
They are amazing. I need to be a better coach, the team needs to play better, but we’re trying. We’ve had good results in Europe, but we’ve struggled in the Premier League.
Mount’s performance?
When you see a player like him, someone who works hard every day, eats healthily, rests well, takes ice baths, and does everything right, you just want to help him. He’s perfect for that position.
More budget with Europa League victory and Champions League qualification?
Money isn’t the most important thing. Even winning trophies isn’t. What matters is how we can make our fans feel. It’s not just about qualifying for the Champions League.
Thoughts on the final?
Every game has its own story. We’ve lost our last three matches against Tottenham, but we can win this one. Both teams will give everything. Both managers are in similar positions. The overall situation is different, but we’re both facing challenges.
