Bastoni: I was fed up with football at the age of fifteen
I owe my European final to my father!
Alessandro Bastoni claimed that at the age of fifteen, he intended to retire from football and is now happy to have reached the UEFA Champions League final.
According to reports, Alessandro Bastoni, the central defender of Inter Milan, who was one of the best players for the Nerazzurri in reaching the UEFA Champions League final, claimed in his latest interview that when he was only fifteen years old, he was considering retiring from football.
Bastoni spoke about the beginning of his football career at a young age: “In my childhood, only football was watched in our house. Of course, my father played for Italy’s U21 team and in Serie B with Cremonese.
He couldn’t succeed, but he raised me like a diamond that needed to be protected. He prevented me from making the same mistakes he had made.
We traveled 230 kilometers a day. He never gave up and passed this perseverance on to me. To be honest, at the age of fifteen, I didn’t play much, and this made me think. I kept asking myself what future I could have with football? Every morning I went out and came back home at 9 pm. I wanted to quit football, but my parents made me understand that I shouldn’t give up. Many boys stronger than me didn’t succeed. In football, mentality is important, and talent alone is not enough. From thinking about quitting football, I reached the UEFA Champions League final, and I am very happy about this.”
