Barcelona Pursuing Historic and Unprecedented Treble!

Barcelona, under the guidance of Hansi Flick this season, is chasing a dream that has never been achieved in the club’s history.

Barcelona Pursuing Historic and Unprecedented Treble!

According to reports, winning the domestic treble—La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup—in a single season is something Barcelona has never accomplished. While the European treble (Champions League, domestic league, and cup) has slipped away from Barça for the third time, the team now has the opportunity to make history by securing all three domestic titles. While Paris Saint-Germain, led by Luis Enrique, is chasing a European treble, Barcelona’s goal in Spain is unique.

Barcelona’s challenge is immense. The team has never managed to win all three domestic titles in one season. However, with victories in their upcoming matches against Real Madrid and Espanyol, La Liga will be within reach. This would mark Barcelona’s 28th La Liga title and their second in the last three seasons after winning under Xavi in the 2022-23 season.

    Barcelona's historic treble pursuit

Additionally, this success could mark Barcelona’s ninth domestic double (La Liga and Copa del Rey) in the club’s history. Barcelona has previously achieved this feat eight times. The Spanish Super Cup, which has been held in its current format since the 1982-83 season, has been added to Barça’s trophy cabinet 15 times, but never alongside a league and cup double in the same season.

The significance of this goal is heightened when considering their main rival, Real Madrid. Real, with stars like Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius, Bellingham, and Courtois, was expected to dominate the season. However, Flick’s Barcelona, relying on fearless youngsters and the experience of key players, has outperformed Real: a 4-0 victory in La Liga at the Bernabéu, a 5-2 win in the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, and a dramatic comeback in the Copa del Rey final in extra time. These achievements highlight Barcelona’s superiority over their long-time rival.

    Barcelona vs Real Madrid

Real Madrid has previously prevented Barcelona from achieving a domestic treble twice (1997-98 and 2017-18). In the 2015-16 season, after winning the UEFA Super Cup, Barcelona fell short in the Spanish Super Cup against Athletic Bilbao. Now, Barcelona stands on the brink of history and, by continuing this momentum, can cap off a memorable season.
