Barcelona Women’s Sixth Consecutive Title
Official: Barcelona scores 9 goals and wins La Liga
Barcelona Women, the powerhouse of women’s football, secured their La Liga title with a dominant 9-0 victory over Real Betis.
According to reports, Barcelona Women secured their sixth consecutive La Liga title with a commanding win over Real Betis, who had already been relegated. This victory sets a new record in the competition, solidifying Barcelona’s dominance in Spanish women’s football over the past six years.
At the Luis del Sol Stadium in Seville, Barcelona’s celebration was coupled with Betis’ relegation. Barcelona needed a win to confirm their title, while Betis’ defeat sealed their fate in the second division. Coach Jonathan Giráldez fielded a strong lineup, with only Ona Batlle and Caroline Graham Hansen missing from the starting eleven. Eva Navarro opened the scoring with a header from Claudia Pina’s cross just two minutes in. Three minutes later, Navarro assisted Pina for the second goal.
Betis attempted to resist with counterattacks, but their defensive struggles were evident. Barcelona, eager to celebrate, created numerous chances. Aitana Bonmatí and Patri Guijarro came close to scoring, while Navarro nearly doubled her tally. In the 28th minute, Betis goalkeeper Vizuoso was sent off for a foul on Navarro, making Betis’ task even harder. However, Carol Férez missed a golden opportunity by opting to pass instead of shooting.
Before halftime, Esmee Brugts scored the third goal from a rebound, signaling a high-scoring victory. In the second half, Barcelona intensified their attack. Pina completed a hat-trick with two more goals (one from a loose ball and another in a one-on-one situation). Ballon d’Or winners Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas joined the scoring spree—Bonmatí netted the sixth, while Putellas combined with Brugts for the seventh. Navarro and Putellas each scored a brace, with Navarro heading in from Graham’s cross and Putellas converting a corner. Graham and Lucía Corrales also hit the post, but Betis had no resistance left and completely surrendered in the final five minutes.
Barcelona’s only loss this season came against Real Madrid, who are currently in second place and drew 1-1 with Costa Adeje today.
